About RGNUL
The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab was established by the State Legislature of Punjab by passing the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab Act, 2006 (Punjab Act No. 12 of 2006). The Act incorporated a law university of national stature in Punjab, thereby fulfilling the need for a Centre of Excellence in legal education in the modern era of globalisation and liberalization. The University acquired the approval of the Bar Council of India (BCI) in July 2006.
About CASIHR
The Centre for Advanced Studies in Human Rights (CASIHR) is a research Centre under the aegis of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab (RGNUL). The Centre’s primary objective is to promote advanced study and interdisciplinary research on the emerging trends in human rights and its allied fields. It endeavours to encourage debates and discussions on the matters that gyrate around the human rights at regional, national and international level so as to contribute paradigm shift in the cognitive understanding of these issues. The CASIHR aims at promoting, supporting and carrying out advanced studies and interdisciplinary research on numerous issues ranging from good governance to globalization processes, with a particular focus on human rights in national, regional and international perspectives; human rights in peace and war; human rights and human security; trade and sustainable development, nuclear weapons and use of force by States; environmental degradation; democracy and rule of law; and human rights and good governance.
About the Course
This Two Credit Certificate Course on Human Rights and Justice is intended to provide undergraduate, postgraduate students, research scholars and human rights enthusiasts pursuing studies in all streams a comprehensive introduction to the basic concepts and practices related to human rights. Through engaging lectures, resources, and interactive discussions, students will explore the philosophical and legal foundations of human rights, delve into key concepts like the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and examine specific categories of rights (civil, political, economic, social, and cultural). This course seeks to familiarize students with the fundamentals of national, regional and international instruments (treaties/conventions) and mechanisms for the promotion and protection of human rights. The course will also address contemporary human rights challenges and empower the participants to understand the role individuals and organizations can play in advocating for a more just world.
