Vidhi invites applications for the posts of Senior Resident Fellow and Research Fellow for its New Delhi Office.

ABOUT VIDHI

The Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy is an independent think tank doing legal research and assisting the government in making better laws. Vidhi is committed to producing legal research of the highest standard with the aim of informing public debate and contributing to improved governance. Vidhi works with Ministries of the Government of India and State Governments, as well as other public institutions, providing research and drafting support at various stages of law-making. Vidhi also conducts and freely disseminates independent research in areas of legal reform which it believes is critical to India’s future.

ROLE DESCRIPTION & ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

In the Financial and Corporate Sector, Vidhi’s work is primarily overseen by the Corporate Law and Financial Regulation and the Law, Finance and Development Teams.

  • The Corporate Law and Financial Regulation Team aims to usher in legal reforms in areas relating to the financial sector and corporate affairs. It has contributed to transformative reforms in bankruptcy law, company law, competition law and financial regulation among other areas.
  • The Law, Finance, and Development Team is working to reform India’s financial sector laws with the goal of creating a stable economic environment, ensuring financial inclusion, and protecting stakeholders’ rights. They have advised the Government on legal frameworks for developing international financial centres, business and human rights, social impact companies. The team has also undertaken independent work in the area of financial inclusion, with focus on women and enabling inclusion through digital public infrastructure.

This call for applications is for individuals interested in working with Vidhi’s Financial and Corporate Sector teams for the positions of Research Fellow and Senior Resident Fellow, who are eligible as per the role description and eligibility criteria mentioned below.

Senior Resident Fellow

Vidhi is looking to hire two Senior Resident Fellows (SRF) to work as an integral part of the Corporate Law and Financial Regulation and the Law, Finance and Development Teams, respectively.

The SRF will be required to implement projects, take part in all meetings and interface with various stakeholders. She/he shall undertake research, analysis and legislative drafting for engaged projects as well as origination projects taken on by Vidhi, and will be responsible for implementation of the project, driving meetings, making presentations and doing stakeholder consultations.

She/he will be expected to work on engaged projects with the Government of India by providing research and drafting support at various stages of law-making, primarily in the area of corporate law and financial regulation. The fellow will also work on origination projects on critical legal issues relating to corporate law, financial regulation, financial inclusion and technology, where she/he will endeavour to propose reforms to existing laws, thereby intending to have a significant impact in the development of such laws. The expected output from the research work will be in the form of research reports, draft legislations and regulations and articles.

Research Fellow

Vidhi is looking to hire two Research Fellows (RF) to work as an integral part of the Corporate Law and Financial Regulation and the Law, Finance and Development Teams, respectively.

The RF will be expected to undertake high-quality research, analysis and legislative drafting for engaged projects as well as origination projects taken by Vidhi at its own behest and provide drafting support to the team for the projects outlined above. RFs will be expected to coordinate and attend meetings with government officials and other stakeholders, prepare legal research reports, research notes and presentations, and support the team in its research work.

Essential Requirements for Senior Resident Fellow and Research Fellow:

  • Undergraduate or postgraduate degree in law,
  • Experience –
    • Senior Resident Fellow: At least 4 years of demonstrable work experience in the area of financial and corporate sector (an LLM will be considered as work experience);
    • Research Fellow: 0 to 4 years of demonstrable work experience in the area of financial and corporate sector (an LLM will be considered as work experience),
  • Ability to implement a project independently and lead a small team for this purpose (for the Senior Resident Fellow),
  • Excellent presentation skills, and ability to communicate with multiple stakeholders,
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills,
  • Excellent communication skills.

Desirable requirements:

For the Law, Finance and Development team, preference will be given to candidates with work experience in the field of financial inclusion.

For the Corporate Law and Financial Regulation team, preference will be given to candidates with work experience in financial regulation and insolvency, competition, securities and company laws.

LOCATION AND SALARY

  • This is a full-time position based out of New Delhi.
  • The Fellow will be engaged in this position for a duration of one year, and renewal shall be subject to performance.
  • Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
