Call for Moot Court : 17th NALSAR-Justice BR Sawhny Memorial Moot Court Competition, 2024: Register by Aug 31

About the Competition

In continuation of its legacy, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, is honoured to announce the 17th edition of its annual Constitutional Law Moot, the NALSAR-Justice Bodh Raj Sawhny Memorial Moot Court Competition, 2024, which will be held in collaboration with the Justice Bodh Raj Sawhny Memorial Trust and in association with Vidhi Centre for Policy Research.

This competition has earned its reputation as India’s premier Constitutional law moot over several years. Esteemed judges such as Justice (Retd.) B.N. Srikrishna, Justice (Retd.) B.P. Rao, Justice (Retd.) Akil Qureshi, and Adv. Gautam Bhatia, among others, has graced previous editions.

For this edition, in honor and legacy of the great Nani A. Palkhivala, his nephew, Mr. Homi P. Ranani, has contributed to the prize pool and established the Nani Palkhivala Award for Best Speakers.

Eligibility

  • The Competition is open to students currently enrolled in LL.B. Degree Courses (3 years/5 years) or LLM Postgraduate Degree Courses.
  • A team is not permitted to have members from more than one institution.
  • No more than one team may represent an institution

Team Composition

Teams of 2 (speakers) or 3 (2 speakers and 1 researcher) are welcome to register. Kindly fill out this Registration Form to register for this Competition

Prizes

  • Winning Team Award: The winning team will receive a trophy and cash prize of INR 75,000.
  • Runners-Up Team Award: The runners-up team will receive a trophy and cash prize of INR 50,000.
  • Nani Palkhivala Award for Best Speaker: The Best Speaker will receive a trophy and cash prize of INR 50,000
  • Nani Palkhivala Award for Second-Best Speaker: The Second-Best Speaker will receive a trophy and a cash prize of INR 20,000.
  • Nani Palkhivala Award for Best Speaker in Finals: The Best Speaker of Finals will receive a trophy and cash prize of INR 10,000.
  • The team with the Best Memorial (Petitioner) will receive a trophy and a cash prize of INR 10,000.
  • The team with the Best Memorial (Respondent) will receive a trophy and a cash prize of INR 10,000.
  • Best Researcher will receive a trophy and a cash prize of INR 10,000.
  • Second-Best Researcher will receive a trophy and a cash prize of INR 7,500.
  • All participating teams will be provided with a certificate of participation or a certificate of merit, in accordance with the performance of the team.

  • Registrations Open August 3, 2024
  • Release of the Moot Proposition and Rules August 3, 2024
  • Registrations close on August 31, 2024
  • The last date for seeking clarifications is August 30, 2024
  • Release of clarifications September 3, 2024
  • Memorandum Submission Deadline September 10, 2024
  • Memorandum Elimination Round Results September 20, 2024
  • Oral Rounds October 04-06, 2024

Registration Fee

All the teams shall be required to pay INR 7,500 via online bank transfer before the deadline to register for Stage 1, i.e. Memorial Evaluation Rounds.

The moot is scheduled to take place from 4th October 2024 to 6th October 2024 in an offline format at NALSAR Hyderabad’s campus.
