About AIBE :

The AIBE was introduced in 2010 with the aim of assessing the minimum benchmark for entering the legal profession. It is an open-book examination that evaluates an advocate’s understanding of basic law and analytical abilities.

 

Key Highlights :

  • Eligibility: Law graduates who have completed a 3-year or 5-year LLB course and are registered with any State Bar Council in India are eligible.
  • Objective: The exam ensures that law graduates possess the necessary skills and knowledge to practice law in India.
  • Frequency: The exam is generally conducted twice a year.

 

Exam Format :

  • Mode: Offline (pen and paper-based)
  • Type: Open-book exam (allowing candidates to carry bare acts without notes)
  • Duration: 3 hours and 30 minutes
  • Language: The exam is conducted in 11 languages, including Hindi and English.

Cutoffs :

The cutoff ranged between 40% to 50% depending on the category. The cutoff was generally around 45% for general category candidates and 40% for reserved categories.

 

High-Scoring Topics :

    • Constitutional Law: Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles of State Policy, and Constitutional Amendments.
    • IPC & CrPC: Major offenses, definitions, procedures for arrest, and bail.
    • CPC: Order and Rules, execution of decrees, and suits by indigent persons.
  • Evidence Act: Types of evidence, admissibility, and relevancy.
  • Professional Ethics: Code of conduct, professional misconduct, and landmark cases.

 

Preparation Tips :

  • Read Bare Acts: Since AIBE is an open-book exam, focus on understanding and quickly referencing bare acts.
  • Time Management: Practice answering questions under timed conditions to improve speed and accuracy.
  • Focus on Case Laws: Be familiar with landmark judgments and their implications, especially in Constitutional Law and Professional Ethics.

 

Exam Day Essentials :

  • Admit Card: Print out your AIBE admit card and carry a valid photo ID.
  • Bare Acts: Since the exam is open-book, you can carry bare acts (without notes).
  • Stationery: Ensure you have multiple pens, pencils, and an eraser.

 

Results and Certification :

Result Declaration

  • The results are usually declared within a month after the exam.
  • Candidates can check their results online on the official AIBE website using their roll number.

Certificate of Practice

  • Candidates who clear the AIBE will receive a “Certificate of Practice” from the BCI, authorizing them to practice law in India.
  • The certificate is dispatched to the candidate’s registered address within 2-3 months of the result declaration.
