Introduction

Global healthcare is evolving at an unprecedented pace, driven by innovations in medical science and technology. However, this progress raises complex ethical questions around access to healthcare, the right to health, and the balance between innovation and equity. While intellectual property (IP) law has traditionally played a central role in incentivizing innovation, it often creates barriers to healthcare access, especially in low- and middle-income countries. This book aims to explore these pressing challenges at the intersection of ethics, innovation, and global health, examining how governance structures, legal frameworks, and policy decisions can either facilitate or hinder equitable healthcare solutions. Contributions to this volume will shed light on these critical issues and explore actionable strategies for ensuring that the benefits of medical innovation are accessible to all.

Target Audience

This book is intended for a wide-ranging audience that includes academics, legal professionals, policymakers, healthcare practitioners, and those working in global health governance. It will be of particular interest to researchers specializing in health justice, public health, IP law, bioethics, and human rights. Additionally, the book is designed to be a valuable resource for institutions and organizations involved in healthcare innovation, pharmaceutical research, and global health policy. It will serve as a critical tool for anyone looking to understand the nuanced relationships between legal frameworks, ethical principles, and healthcare access in a rapidly changing world.
