Call for report: Scientific Reports Chemical priming in agriculture

Chemical priming in agriculture

Climate change and recurring extreme climate events are major threats to food security worldwide. To safeguard the sustainability of current agricultural systems, it is imperative to minimise yield losses under adverse environmental conditions. Priming, the mechanism through which plants can perceive a mild stimulus to become more prepared for further adverse conditions, allows increased tolerance to abiotic and biotic stresses in diverse varieties, including crops often recalcitrant to genetic transformation. Priming using natural or synthetic chemical agents has emerged as a promising tool in agriculture, given it does not require specialised technology and has the potential to be scaled-up without prohibitive costs. Important questions remain however, regarding the mechanisms underlying priming responses, the function of individual chemical agents, or their effectiveness in the field where the conditions are harder to control

This Collection invites original research on plant chemical priming, including studies on its genetic and biochemical regulation, the characterization of new priming agents, or its feasibility in field trials and agriculture.

Submitting a paper for consideration

To submit your manuscript for consideration at Scientific Reports as part of this Collection, please follow the steps detailed on this page. On the first page of our online submission system, under “I’m submitting:” select the option “any other article type”. Once logged in you can submit your manuscript to a Collection by selecting “Guest Edited Collection”, under the “Choose the appropriate manuscript type” message, and clicking “Continue”. Then when filling out the manuscript information, select the “Chemical priming in agriculturee” Collection from the alphabetical list on the “Springer Nature Subject Category” tab. Authors should express their interest in the Collection in their cover letter.

Accepted papers are published on a rolling basis as soon as they are ready.

In addition to papers on Chemical priming in agriculture, Scientific Reports welcomes all original research in the field of Plant sciences. To browse our latest articles in Plant sciences click here.
