Call for applications – One PhD Scholarship in Fundamental Rights at the Hertie Schoo
One Three-year scholarship to pursue a full-time PhD in the field of Fundamental Rights starting from September 2025.
The Hertie School is offering one three-year scholarship for an exceptional candidate to pursue a full-time PhD in the field of Fundamental Rights starting from September 2025. The successful candidate will be part of the Centre for Fundamental Rights team at the Hertie School.
We invite PhD candidates with exceptionally strong academic track records at undergraduate and master’s level (or equivalent) in human rights or related fields, particularly with academic backgrounds in law, politics or related disciplines, with strong demonstrated interest in research of human rights theories, law, policy, and institutions.
Research proposals should focus on contemporary and emerging challenges to the protection of fundamental rights in domestic, regional and/or global governance. We welcome proposals that address the efficacy of human rights at all levels, with a preference for those focusing on the impact of climate change, economic inequalities, war and armed conflict, digital technologies, migration and forced displacement, and the effects of political polarization and the raise of authoritarianism.
Candidates will be supervised by the incoming Director of the Centre and have an opportunity to join a vibrant, diverse and multi-disciplinary community of scholars. Enquiries should be addressed to the Centre Manager, Dr Michal Kramer.
