Collaborative Intelligence and Edge-AI Integration in Cyber-Physical-Social Systems
This special issue seeks to explore recent developments in the integration of collaborative intelligence and edge-based AI within Cyber-Physical-Social Systems (CPSS). We invite selected expanded papers from IEEE CBDCom 2025, along with original contributions specifically addressing edge-cloud frameworks, federated learning techniques, and semantic communications. We encourage submissions focused on practical scenarios such as elderly care, disaster management, and intelligent transportation, emphasizing real-world applications and measurable outcomes. This issue aims to consolidate innovative methodologies that enhance the resilience, effectiveness, and user-focused design of integrated cyber, physical, and social systems.
The distinct contribution of this special issue lies in its integration of recent advancements in communication, artificial intelligence, and social computing. Unlike previous approaches that tackled these domains separately, this collection specifically highlights their practical synergy. Selected research from IEEE CBDCom 2025 will serve as foundational examples, complemented by new submissions. We particularly emphasize applied research demonstrating real-time decision-making, user-centric system design, and context-aware intelligence. Examples from real-life applications, including disaster preparedness, healthcare systems, and urban infrastructure management, will be featured to illustrate these integrated solutions.
This special issue targets critical societal issues through advanced collaborative and transparent AI systems within CPSS. Specifically, contributions will support the UN Sustainable Development Goals, including Health and Well-Being (SDG 3), Industry and Innovation (SDG 9), and Sustainable Cities (SDG 11). Human-centered AI solutions for personalized elderly care will be emphasized, alongside the deployment of federated learning technologies to enhance disaster preparedness and response systems. Additionally, intelligent infrastructure management will be featured, illustrating benefits in energy efficiency, transport optimization, and public service enhancement. This issue will demonstrate tangible societal impacts achieved through practical AI integration.
