Call for paper: AI Anthropomorphism in Information Systems

AI Anthropomorphism in Information Systems

AI Anthropomorphism, the human-like representation or perception of AI agents, has emerged as a critical area of research, transforming user interactions within AI-reliant information systems. The perception of human-like characteristics or agency in AI tools presents challenges and opportunities for adoption, trust, ethical considerations, change management and systems design choices across diverse domains. The Special Issue seeks critical and impactful interdisciplinary research papers exploring the behavioral, societal, and design implications of AI anthropomorphism.

By balancing theoretical insights, design science work and empirical evidence, this issue will be accessible to a broad audience in the Information Science and Information Systems domains. It aims to promote empirical studies, conceptual frameworks and other design propositions, qualitative research, and literature reviews on research questions pertaining to human-AI interaction experience, trust, perception and integration of anthropomorphic AI in work systems and organizations.

The Special Issue will offer actionable insights for both researchers and practitioners, to enhance – on one side, design decisions for AI systems supporting information management and decision-making and, on the other side, the adoption and acceptance of AI, on individual level or as enabler for hybrid intelligence work systems.

List of Topic Areas:

  1. The Impact of AI Anthropomorphism on Trust and User Intention
  2. AI Anthropomorphism and Ethical Design: Risks and Boundaries
