The Swiss Institute for Feminist and Gender Law Studies (FRI) is pleased to publish a call for participation in its biannual conference in feminist and queer legal studies which will take place on February 9 and 10, 2023 at the University of Neuchâtel (Switzerland). ).
The FRI proposes, for its 2023 conference, to reflect, from feminist and queer perspectives, on the role of law and its effects on human bodies as well as the way in which it incorporates us into society. The effect of law on bodies must be approached from a holistic, multidimensional and interdisciplinary perspective. We welcome contributions on identity, conceptions of the self formed and influenced by law, and the creation and negation of autonomy by law. We also want to focus on how the law engages bodies from conception to their treatment after death, particularly in relation to moral and technological developments in reproduction. A particular place will be given to the question of (sexual) offenses against the body in respect of which the law has been absent or badly applied and which have been too frequently perpetrated on women’s bodies. Finally, the conference will address the many ways in which violence marks bodies, whether physical, psychological or economic, as well as the need for the decolonization of bodies.
Contributions from people in academia, professional practice and activist movements around the world are welcome. The FRI particularly wishes to encourage people at the start of their career to submit a contribution. Although the conference focuses on gender-related legal issues, we welcome relevant contributions from all disciplines. Interdisciplinarity occupies a central place in the colloquia of the FRI.
