About New Jersey Consortium for Immigrant Children [NJCIC]
The New Jersey Consortium for Immigrant Children is a coalition of attorneys from nearly twenty of New Jersey’s legal services providers, as well as healthcare professionals, community-based organizations, and educators who are committed to working with immigrant children and youth. NJCIC seeks lawful status for immigrant youth and advocates for system-wide change in the areas of education, access to justice, and health equity.
Our ultimate goal is a NJ where every young immigrant has lawful status and the opportunity to advance, and where families can stay together and thrive. We want NJ to be a welcoming and inclusive state for all children – a place where every young immigrant has the opportunity to feel secure, advance, and achieve success in their lives.
About the Internship Opportunity
The summer intern will have a unique opportunity to be involved in both NJCIC’s legal and policy advocacy work. On the legal program side, NJCIC currently serves as the central intake and referral hub for a state-funded program providing free legal representation to unaccompanied children and similarly situated youth in New Jersey. NJCIC also provides direct representation to youth, develops educational materials and conducts know your rights sessions tailored to immigrant children and their caregivers.
The intern will gain valuable, hands-on experience conducting client intake, researching legal issues, and working with a staff attorney to prepare applications for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status and asylum cases. The intern may also assist in developing up-to-date educational materials tailored to immigrant youth to inform them of their rights and the resources available to them.
On the policy side, the intern will have the opportunity to conduct research and contribute to reports or recommendations on policy change related to access to justice, access to education, or health equity. The intern will also shadow NJCIC’s Policy Director for meetings and sessions with lawmakers and coalitions within the state.

Location
NJCIC has a hybrid work model – staff work in person 2 days a week at co-working space in Jersey City and the remaining days remotely. The intern may have the opportunity to attend court or other in-person events across the state.
Stipend
NJCIC offers a stipend of $2,500, which can be coupled with any outside stipend the student receives.
Duration
The summer internship is full time for 10-12 weeks.
