About Conference:
It has been aimed to delve into the fascinating world of comparative sentencing practices across diverse justice systems worldwide. By examining the complexities, challenges, and achievements in sentencing decisions, the event will foster knowledge sharing, critical analysis, and informed discussions among legal professionals, policymakers, academics, and practitioners. Participants will explore the impact of cultural, legal, and societal factors on sentencing, assess the effectiveness of different approaches, and identify potential reforms to enhance fairness, proportionality, and rehabilitation in criminal justice systems.
Theme:
Sentencing is a major stage of criminal justice administration system where punishment is proclaimed for the convicts. India still does not have a structured sentencing policy neither by the legislature nor by the judiciary. In 2003, the Committee on Reforms of Criminal Justice System (Malimath Committee) and subsequently in 2008, the Committee on Draft National policy on Criminal Justice, (Madhava Menon Committee) generated the idea of framing of a sentencing policy for India. The Malimath Committee also discussed about pros and cons of the adversarial system mainly followed in India and other common law countries, in comparison with the inquisitorial system which is being followed in civil law countries like France, Germany, Italy and other continental countries.

This international conference is mainly organised to accumulate the socio-legal theories have been developed by several experts and stakeholders and to exchange the thoughts of specialised erudite scholars throughout the world. Therefore, there are no limited and exhaustive subjects and topics, but some subtopics have been formulated:
• Legal traditions and sentencing diversity: Understanding the influence of legal systems, traditions, and cultural values on sentencing practices.
• Sentencing disparities: Investigating the factors contributing to disparities in sentencing outcomes and strategies for addressing them.
• Sentencing discretion and judicial decision-making: Examining the role of judicial discretion and the challenges of ensuring consistency and fairness.
• Sentencing guidelines and their impact: Analysing the development and application of sentencing guidelines in different jurisdictions.
• Comparative analysis of mandatory minimum sentences: Evaluating the effectiveness and consequences of mandatory minimum sentences across countries.
