Call for Applications | ‘SIAC and Institutional Arbitration’ – An Elective Course by NLSIU and SIAC!

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru is pleased to introduce a new course on international arbitration titled SIAC and Institutional Arbitration (SIAC Module), in collaboration with the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC).

About the Course

The SIAC Module is a unique part of our elective course on the Law and Practice of International Arbitration, which seeks to introduce participants to the role and function of arbitral institutions in guiding and shaping the practice and development of international arbitration, and to the complex issues that arbitral institutions face in the administration of arbitrations, including, among others, the appointment of arbitrators and the issuance of arbitral rules and practice notes.

Course details

The SIAC Module will be taught in-person at the NLSIU campus in Bengaluru from 17th to 21st April, 2024. The course convenor is Mr Chong Yee Leong, Deputy Chairman, SIAC and the list of lecturers is set out below:

Eligibility

Candidates who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate full-time, law programme from a recognised University in India are eligible to apply. We also welcome applications from law practitioners and academics who are interested in learning about international arbitration. However, as a course that demands a basic understanding of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), the enrolment will be limited.

How to apply

Candidates interested in enrolling in the course should submit a formal request for enrolment through this link by March 31, 2024 (23:59 IST) along with the following documents:

  • CV (not more than 2 pages)
  • Statement of Purpose (500 words – clearly indicating why and how this course would be helpful for your career)
  • Copy of the student ID

The selection shall be primarily based on the CV, academic and professional background of the candidate, and statement of purpose. During the selection process diversity of backgrounds shall be given due consideration.

Fee

As there will be limited slots to audit the SIAC Module, registration will be based on a selection and subject to full payment of course fees as mentioned below:

  1. Students: Rs. 5,000 + 18 % GST = Rs. 5,900/-
  2. Working professionals: Rs. 15,000 + 18% GST = Rs. 17,700/-

Certificate

Auditing Participants will be expected to participate in class activities and class discussions, but do not otherwise undertake the formal assessment modes for the course, such as any research papers or exams. A certificate of participation will be issued to auditing participants who meet a minimum attendance requirement of 80%.

Please note that there will be no refund of any fees should the participant cancel the registration or fail to attend the course.
