About CIPR
The Centre for Intellectual Property Rights (CIPR) was established by the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun in August 2021. It aims to create awareness about the intricacies related to the field of Intellectual Property Rights and acts as a platform that assists academicians, researchers, entrepreneurs, and innovators to identify, preserve and utilize their Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) effectively. To fulfil this objective, the Centre is designed to bring forth the current and upcoming contemporary challenges related to Intellectual Property Rights and has conducted various seminars and events to pioneer the practical aspects related to this field.
The Centre for IPR, UPES is delighted to announce the celebration of celebrating World IP Day on 26th April 2024. The theme for the day, as announced by the World Intellectual Property Organization, is “IP and the Sustainable Development Goals: Building our common future with innovation and creativity”.

About the Theme
Sustainable development has emerged as a key priority in the global agenda, and the intellectual property (IP) system has come to interact with it more closely. This has resulted in the emergence of a range of policy and legal issues that the IP system is still grappling with concerning biodiversity, climate change and the diffusion of green technologies, food security, and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) more generally. Intellectual Property is a critical incentive for innovation and creativity, which in turn are key to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals success.
Right to Repair is currently a movement that calls for governments to formulate policies that allow consumers to repair electronic products on their own and will thus help extend the life of electronic items thereby reducing e-waste generation. Right to repair is a step toward achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goal 12 on responsible consumption and production. In this context realizing the importance and need, the Centre for IPR is organizing a panel discussion on the theme “INNOVATE TO SUSTAIN-Analyzing the Right to Repair movement as a key to circular economy and the role of IP”.
