ABOUT

National Law University Delhi (NLU Delhi) is committed to fostering collaborative academic
engagements and enhancing mobility of students, researchers and faculty. Building and
sustaining domestic academic collaborations (both legal and interdisciplinary) is vital to
achieving our vision of becoming a leading global university through excellence in research and
learning. In pursuance of this goal, NLU Delhi has instituted the Scholars-In-Residence
Programme, which is designed to facilitate interaction and collaboration with scholars from
leading institutions and professionals / practitioners in India.

Categories of Resident Scholars-
NLU Delhi has the following visitor tracks:
1) Visiting Scholars
2) Visiting Professionals/ Practitioners

Applying for the Scholars-in-Residence Programme

Individuals who wish to apply for the Scholars-in-Residence programme must complete the
application form. The application can be submitted at any time of the year, but must be made
atleast 6 months prior to the proposed commencement of the visit. In order to be eligible for the
programme, the visit must be for atleast one month.
Application does not guarantee acceptance. The completed form and supporting documents
would be considered by a committee constituted by the Vice Chancellor, NLU Delhi. All
applications would be reviewed on a wide range of considerations including scholarly merit,
practical value, engagement with contemporary concerns, uniqueness of the contribution and
relevance to University’s teaching and research. A decision on the application would normally
be communicated within 3 weeks of making the application. A formal invitation would be
extended to successful applicants along with relevant information regarding the visit (category,
duration, allowed activities, etc) and a general visitor agreement. The University will not provide
detailed feedback on unsuccessful applications.

Roles and Responsibilities

Visitors are encouraged to participate and contribute to the academic and research life of the
University. The programme is designed for scholars intending to work independently with
minimal supervision. All visitors are responsible for their work and research while at NLU Delhi.
Visitors are expected to refrain from engaging in additional assignments during their time at
NLU Delhi. They are not permitted to register as a student, work towards a qualification, or
undertake paid work.

Duration of the visit

Visits under the programme can range from one month to a year. However, the proposed learning
and research engagements must match the proposed duration.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to plan their visit to coincide with atleast part of the academic
semesters.
