Call for Papers! for the 13th UN Research Colloquium on “Global Transformations: The International System at a Crossroads?”!

The Research Colloquium of the Young UN Research Working Group (DGVN) is aimed at young researchers and students from all disciplines. It offers the opportunity to discuss and present current research, bachelor/master theses, and student/seminar papers related to the overall topic of this event. Proposals will be accepted in English and German.

Participation is also possible without the presentation of a research paper. The colloquium is open to all interested parties.

TOPIC

For this year’s Research Colloquium, we are calling for submissions that relate to transformations currently taking place (at any level) that have global implications and that are likely to challenge our (hitherto) prevailing realities and perspectives. To name just a few examples:

Wars and their re-occurrence in Europe (incl. the widespread ignorance of wars in other world regions),
Digitalisation (e.g., regarding the increased importance of stable and safe communication in economic, legal, and social terms),
The growing importance of universal cooperation in solving global problems (e.g., in tackling climate change),
The increased influence of the Global South (closely associated with the need for a revaluation of North-South relations),
Ideas and concepts discussed at the Summit of the Future,
The role of international judicial bodies in transformations, in particular through the clear definition of obligations (e.g., in the small islands cases before the ICJ and ITLOS, or the preliminary procedures under the Genocide Convention between South Africa and Israel).

This list is not exhaustive and proposals to any other topic related to global transformations (in the context of the overall theme of the United Nations) are equally welcome.

We encourage all participants to contribute their own perspectives and present innovative approaches.

SUBMISSION OF PROPOSALS

We invite you to submit your proposals of approx. 200 words to [email protected]by 01 July 2024.

Upon successful admission, the submission of final papers (max. 5,000 words) will be due on 30 September 2024. Manuscripts will be distributed to participations in preparation for discussions at the Research Colloquium.

Applications from women*, members of the LGBTQI+ community, BIPoC, people with disabilities, people with a migration background, and people from other groups that are still underrepresented in academia are particularly welcome.
