A Ph.D. student with a full graduate assistantship and a Postdoctoral Researcher position is available in the
Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at University of Alabama, starting in
the Fall 2024 or Spring 2025. This opportunity is in Dr. Duan’s lab, focusing on sustainable and intelligent
built environment research, including flood resilience and thermal resilience. The research will utilize
artificial intelligent techniques such as machine learning, GPT-guided gaming engines, and storytelling to
improve the life quality of socially vulnerable populations.
Qualifications for PhD student:
• Master’s degree in one of the following disciplines: Architectural Engineering, Building
Technology, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other
relevant fields.
• Self-motivated, independent, responsible, and enthusiastic personality.
• Proficient programming skills.
• Strong English writing and speaking skills.
• Publication records or research experience are preferred.
Qualifications for Postdoctoral Researcher:
• A Ph.D. degree in Architectural Engineering, Building Technology, Computer Science,
Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a relevant program by the start date.
• Goal-oriented and structured way of working, initiative/commitment, ability to work in a team
and willingness to cooperate, willingness to learn as well as conceptual, strategic, and innovative
thinking skills.
• Confirmed practice in publication and presentation of scientific results.
• Proficient programming skills.
• Very good command of English.
• Experience in supervision of young scientists is preferred.
