Additive Manufacturing of Renewable and Sustainable Polymers
Additive manufacturing, widely known as 3D printing, has become a revolutionary technology across different sectors, especially in relation to shaping and processing renewable and sustainable materials, among which are sustainable polymeric materials. The inherently poor mechanical properties and low thermal stability of sustainable polymeric materials necessitates the use of innovative techniques like Additive Manufacturing in order to preserve their properties during processing followed by prototyping them into desired articles as quickly, safely, and economically as possible.
This special issue seeks to collect, harmonize, and solidify the latest knowledge and practices on materials obtained by the use of Additive Manufacturing in manufacturing bio-based materials from sustainable resources. This emphasizes novel strategies that improve resource efficiency and environmental sustainability. The progression of this technology provides remarkable chances to create intricate shapes and personalized designs while reducing material waste and energy use. By utilizing renewable resources like biopolymers, natural fibres, and recycled materials, researchers and industry experts can create sustainable options for conventional manufacturing methods, responding to the pressing demand for eco-friendly practices in product design and material production.
