Call for Papers: International Symposium on Making and Archiing Feminist Zines Otherwise: A Symposium on Global Feminist Methods & Pedagogies, 22-23 October 2026
We invite proposals for an online symposium examining the methodological and pedagogical significance of feminist zine-making.
This event seeks to bring together scholars, educators, artists, practitioners, and/or activists who engage with feminist zine-making otherwise (see Escobar 2003; Anzaldúa 2007) – from queer, radical, rebellious, subversive, popular, and/or decolonial ways.
The symposium will support the launch of a global feminist zine archive, amplifying existing zine projects and zines that we seek to build and expand collectively from the event.
Papers should engage with methodological and pedagogical work on zine-making that advances feminist scholarship, art, praxis and knowledge production, and may address (but are not limited to):
● Critical feminist, queer, and de/anti-colonial approaches to zine-making
● Arts-based, practice-led, or participatory research with zine-making
● Pedagogical applications of zine-making
● Zines as modes of knowledge translation, archives, community-building, and/or activism
● Historical, cultural, or political analyses of zine practices
The symposium will run across online sessions over 22-23 October, scheduled to accommodate multiple time zones. Presentations will be 10-15 minutes, followed by discussion. Contributors are encouraged to share or submit their zines or zine projects to be amplified in the forthcoming feminist archive.
Submission
Please submit a 200-word abstract, a 100-word bio, and zine file/link (if relevant), and your preferred time zone via this form: https://forms.gle/2kynvfxr7TDxjna38 by Wednesday, 22 July.
