About the theme:
Computers & Education Open is launching a call for papers related to integrity in educational technology. As we expand the role of technology in classrooms and learning environments throughout the world, learning is increasingly subject to. the same ethical questions that are being raised daily in relation to the use of the internet and technology more broadly. Ethical skills are necessary in a world of cognitive biases, where algorithms touch almost every corner of human endeavor.
Our hope is that this open call for submissions will prompt further scrutiny of this important topic.

Special issue information:
Attention is normally paid to the development of curricular knowledge, with little (or no) attention paid to ethical skills. Ethical skills are necessary in a world of cognitive biases, where algorithms are touching almost every corner of human endeavour. It is not only about teaching ethical consequences, but also developing ethical skills among our students. Furthermore, educational technology raises questions about data, including its exchange, legal aspects and responsibilities, surveillance and control. These issues are not usually considered in research and have implications for security and privacy. Our aim is to drive research that studies legal and ethical compliance in educational technology.
A final issue involving integrity concerns addictions. Interactive screens are increasingly used inside and outside classrooms for instructional purposes. Research has shown that overstimulation produced by interactive screens can decrease academic performance among children and affect their physical, cognitive, emotional, and social well-being. Our invitation is to perform research that considers the benefits and harms of educational technology.
Manuscript submission information:
Computers & Education Open welcomes empirical articles and review papers on topics relevant to this discussion. Submissions of different natures, such as position papers or commentaries should be discussed with the editor prior to submission to verify suitability. Please refer to the guide for authors for further details about manuscript preparation.
The call will remain open until the end of the year, however authors are encouraged to submit early to take advantage of the waiver, which remains in effect until June 30th 2021. Submissions should be made via the Editorial Manager system and authors should select the theme title from the article type menu when submitting their work.
