Call for Papers: Collection: Racialized Identities and Afghan Refugees in the Global South and Beyond, Submission Deadline: 30 April 2027

This collection examines the evolving dynamics of Afghan refugee
displacement with a primary focus on the Global South, while also
engaging comparative and transnational perspectives beyond it.
Following decades of conflict and the political transformations
culminating in 2021, Afghan refugees represent one of the largest
and most protracted displaced populations globally, with the majority
hosted in countries such as Pakistan, Iran, and Turkey. The collection
seeks to critically explore how structural inequalities, governance
regimes, and socio-political contexts shape the lived experiences of
Afghan refugees.

In addition, the issue invites
contributions that examine emerging trends, including digital
diasporas, border securitization, humanitarian governance, and the
geopolitics of refugee management. Comparative studies that situate
Afghan refugees within broader Global South migration systems, or
connect them to refugee experiences in Europe and beyond, are
particularly welcome. By bridging empirical research with critical
theory, this collection aims to advance scholarly debates on forced migration, contribute to policy-relevant
knowledge, and foreground voices and perspectives often marginalized in global migration discourse.
