Call for Papers – Heritage in War and Peace VI- Between Local and Global Heritage, Abstract Submission Deadline Extended- September 20, 2026
The Heritage International Institute (HII) is pleased to announce the Call for Papers for the sixth edition of the international conference Heritage in War and Peace, organised in partnership with University of Alberta (Portugal) and CompaRes – International Society for Iberian-Slavonic Studies, together with the Center for Air and Space Law at Ole Miss , the University of Strathclyde , For All Moonkind, Inc., UNETCHAC Universities Network for Children in Armed Conflict and a distinguished network of institutional partners.

This year’s theme, “Between Local and Global Heritage,” explores how cultural and natural heritage can remain deeply rooted in local communities while responding to global legal, political, environmental and technological challenges.
We welcome contributions from scholars and professionals across disciplines, including law, political science, archaeology, anthropology, architecture, geography, history, museum studies, digital humanities and related fields.
Topics include:
• Heritage governance
• Armed conflict and heritage protection
• Restitution and repatriation
• Climate change
• Digital heritage
• Human rights
• Intangible heritage
• Sustainable development
• Critical heritage studies
Doctoral candidates and early career researchers are especially encouraged to apply. The conference offers opportunities for international networking, mentoring, publication, and the Best Early Career Paper Award. Selected papers will also be considered for publication in a special issue of the Journal of Global Studies.
