Call for Papers: International Conference on ICT for Sustainability (ICT4S), Submission Deadline- January 13, 2027
The International Conference on ICT for Sustainability (ICT4S) brings together leading researchers, industry, government, public sector, civil society representatives with an interest in using, analysing, designing and deploying ICT for environmental, social, technical and economic sustainability.
The conference provides a platform for a broad spectrum of research discussing the role of ICT for sustainable societies and welcomes contributions from all academic fields, including computer science, the humanities, natural, and social sciences, with a strong emphasis on collaboration across disciplines. Thereby, the conference provides a space for trans- and interdisciplinary exchange and inspiration for new ideas and solutions.
Topics of interest
Submissions should address the design, impacts, opportunities, risks, and potential solutions at the intersection of ICT and sustainability. ICT4S 2027 seeks submissions to the Research Papers track on diverse topics related to ICT for sustainability, including, but not limited to:
- Design principles and exemplars for sustainable ICT
- Sustainable software engineering
- Assessment of social and environmental impacts of ICT
- Smart cyber-physical systems (grids, city, home, farming)
- Digitalisation and AI
- Potential of ICT for societal or economic growth and decentralization
- Green E-Commerce
- Sustainability in data centers and high-performance computing
- Sobriety of ICT, redefining and reorienting needs
- ICT and circular economy
- Sustainability-driven resilience
- ICT-induced behavioral and societal change
- Social sustainability implications, contributions and limitations of ICT
- Art and education in ICT for sustainability
- Governance, policy, and regulation for sustainability in and for ICT
- Communication, media, and digital narratives for sustainability transitions
- Interdisciplinary research combining ICT with social sciences, political science, communication studies, economics, humanities, and related fields
- Industry-led research, industrial case studies, and sustainability in practice
To broaden the impact and relevance of ICT for sustainability research, we particularly encourage (i) submissions that draw on perspectives from disciplines beyond ICT, including social sciences, political science, and communication studies and (ii) submissions developed in collaboration with industry.
Paper types
To foster broad dialogue on scientific and practical advances in ICT for sustainability, ICT4S 2027 invites original research papers, from technical and empirical studies to application-driven and exploratory work. Specifically, ICT4S 2027 accepts the following types of submissions:
- Technical papers: Technical papers present original, rigorous solutions related to key sustainability challenges. Submissions should clearly outline the problem, related work, proposed solution, and its implications—supported by relevant examples.
- Empirical papers: Empirical papers assess real-world cases or validate solutions through studies, experiments, or simulations. Submissions should clearly state the topic, use sound methods, and highlight both findings and remaining challenges.
- Position papers: Position papers present novel, unconventional approaches, positions or visions in ICT for sustainability. They should challenge the statu quo, highlight and reflect on current limitations, and argue the significance of the proposed ideas.
- Application papers: Application papers showcase current state-of-the-art practices in ICT and sustainability, highlighting challenges, insights, and innovations from practical implementation in industry or other communities.
Review process
ICT4S 2027 will follow a double-blind review process for the Research Papers track. All submitted papers will be reviewed by three experts. Reviewers will be asked to treat artifacts and papers as confidential. Changes to the list of authors are not permitted after submission. Track chairs are not allowed to submit papers to the track they are chairing.
Papers will be evaluated based on novelty, sustainability relevance and impact, soundness and rigor, transparency, and presentation. All submissions must be original, unpublished, and not submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere.
Since the ICT4S conference is also a place where researchers and practitioners can exchange personal perspectives on values and impact, particular attention will be given to the explicit description and the significance of how the work has or would positively impact any aspect of sustainability of the environment, society, or economy.
The Research Papers track chairs reserve the right to propose the publication of borderline submissions as short papers, based on the reviewers’ recommendations and the overall fit of the contribution. Short papers will be published in the ICT4S 2027 CEUR Workshop Proceedings.
AI-generated content
Authors are required to conform to the IEEE Guidelines for Artificial Intelligence (AI)-Generated Text, specifically: “The use of content generated by artificial intelligence (AI) in an article (including but not limited to text, figures, images, and code) shall be disclosed in the acknowledgments section of any article submitted to an IEEE publication. The AI system used shall be identified, and specific sections of the article that use AI-generated content shall be identified and accompanied by a brief explanation regarding the level at which the AI system was used to generate the content.

Publication of papers
All accepted Research papers will be published in the ICT4S 2027 proceedings and appear in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library.
Note that at least one author of an accepted submission is required to register and present the work at the conference.
Submission process
Papers have to be submitted electronically via EasyChair ADD LINK in the “ICT4S 2027 Research Paper Track”. Below we provide the important dates related to your submissions:
- Abstract submission (mandatory): January 13, 2027
- Paper submission: January 20, 2027
- Acceptance notification: March 3, 2027
- Camera-ready paper submission: March 17, 2027
Note that the abstract submission is mandatory. The abstract of your submission has to be submitted for timely reviewer allocation, followed by the full paper submission.
