About the Competition and Theme
The Prof. V. S. Mallar Memorial Legal Aid Lawyering Competition is a platform that takes legal education beyond the classroom and into the live realities of individuals and communities. The Fifth Edition focuses on the rights and protection of children, particularly violence against children and the gap between legal protection and effective access to justice. The competition is structured around a central legal-aid proposition, requiring participating teams to examine the problem from factual, legal, institutional, social and remedial perspectives. Unlike a conventional moot court, the competition goes beyond merely identifying a legal violation and requires participants to examine the entire journey from recognition of a right to the availability of an effective remedy. The six components collectively form the team’s legal-aid case record and culminate in a simulated Bal Adalat, where teams present, defend and critically examine the case before the adjudicating panel.
THEME:- VIOLENCE AGAINST CHILDREN: FROM LEGAL PROTECTION TO EFFECTIVE REMEDY
- The competition examines physical, emotional, sexual, institutional, domestic, educational and technology-facilitated violence against children.
- Participants will examine children’s rights, existing laws, statutory protections, institutional mechanisms and the duties of responsible authorities.
- Participants will analyse reporting and complaint mechanisms, access to legal aid, investigation and adjudication, confidentiality, identity protection and the child’s right to participate and be heard.
- The competition will address rehabilitation and reintegration, gaps in implementation, institutional coordination and the accessibility and effectiveness of available remedies.
- Participants must critically assess whether existing protection mechanisms effectively translate legal rights into accessible, timely and meaningful remedies for children.
REGISTRATION
1.The Registration fee for each participating team shall be INR 6000/- (Rupees Six Thousand Only), inclusive of GST
2.Institutions interested in participating in the competition are required to complete their registration by filling out the Google Form available at this link.
3.Registration shall be deemed complete only upon successful payment of the registration fee and submission of the duly filled registration form.
The Last date for registration is 20 October 2026, 10:00 PM
4.A confirmation email shall be sent by the organizing committee at the earliest upon verification of the registration and payment, and the email shall serve as official confirmation of the team’s registration.
