Scopus call for papers : Special Issue on Wave Energy Conversion

Wave energy is of great importance due to the availability of limited resources worldwide, rising global energy demands, and renewable energy targets that different countries are setting. Methods and techniques that capture and convert wave energy in an efficient way are playing a role of ever-increasing importance towards commercialization, as well as other key technologies in future wave energy systems, e.g. power forecasting and smoothing, farm planning and grid-connected operation.

The main goal of this Special Issue is to address those key challenges, thereby promoting the research on design, control, optimization, and operation of wave energy converters. Topics of interest of this Special Issue include, but are not limited to, the following aspects:

Design and advanced control

  • Novel technologies to harvest wave energy, including numerical analysis and experimental validations
  • Dynamic analysis and power performance assessment of WECs
  • Latest optimization methods in WEC design
  • Latest control strategies applied to WECs and their experimental verification

Forecasting and uncertainty

  • Forecasting of waves, system dynamics, and power generations
  • Uncertainty and complementarity among dynamics, control, and powers of WECs

Farm planning and operation

  • Wave farm layout planning
  • Operation of grid-connected wave farms

Flexibility and optimization with energy storage and power smoothing

  • Power smoothing methods and technologies for a wave energy converter
  • New energy storage technologies and integration for a wave farm
  • Robust and optimal operation of energy storage with variable wave power

Techno-economic analyses

  • Novel modeling and optimization techniques for techno-economical assessment of WEC-based systems
  • Techno-economic analysis of WECs and wave farms

Submission Guidelines

Only original manuscripts can be submitted, according to the ‘Guide for Authors’ published on the Ocean Engineering website https://www.journals.elsevier.com/ocean-engineering. As regards the online submission system of Ocean Engineering, the authors are invited to follow the link “Submit your Paper”, located in the main page of the Journal website, and submit manuscript to Article Type “SI: Wave Energy Conversion ” in Ocean Engineering.

Please mention the name of the Special Issue in your cover letter. All manuscripts will be peer-reviewed in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the journal. The final papers will be selected for publication depending on the results of the peer review process and the reviews of the Guest Editors.
