ABOUT THE FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

There are some core political and social values which form the foundation of any society. These values are found embedded in Constitutions of most nations. These values in addition toserving as a foundation for political and social progress emphatically lay down individual rights and interests. 

Fundamental rights bestowed to the Indian citizens are an essential part of the Indian Constitutional values. They avert the government from being authoritarian and repressive. Hence, it is imperative that the citizens of the country are aware and abreast about the Constitutional values and rights, which not only validates their political existence but allows them to live life in accordance to their full potential.   

This FDP, in accord with the UGC mandate of Mulyapravah and Guru-Dakshta, is designed keeping in mind that every citizen ought to be aware of our Constitutional values and the fundamental rights. This FDP aims to bring academicians and researchers from various disciplines both law and non-law to a common platform to study and comprehend various nuances of Indian Constitution, its principles, values, and fundamental rights available to them. Further, it aims to explain the evolution of Constitutionalism and how the values operate in different sphere of social and political life. The participants will not only gain extensive knowledge and perspectives in this field but will also be successful in grappling with the various nuances of Indian Constitution and fundamental rights.   

OBJECTIVES

  • To sensitise the participants about the Constitutional Values, Human Rights and Fundamental Duties that will facilitate them to internalize the need for an egalitarian and sustainable society.
  • To study the history and foundations of Indian Constitution.
  • To conceptually explain the Constitutional values as envisaged by the Constitution framers.
  • To evaluate the role of judiciary in evolving different dimensions of Constitutional values and fundamental rights. 
  • To explore different areas of social and political life and to assess the impact of Constitutional values and fundamental rights on it and vice-versa. 
  • To sensitize participants about the inherent conflicts involved with implementation of constitutional values in achieving social and economic objectives.
