The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab makes a mark on SWAYAM, an indigenous platform of the MHRD, GOI, that hosts Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), with a new addition in the discipline of Sociology. The University registers presence in MHRD SWAYAM Chapter by launching MOOC titled ‘Sociology of Gender’. Prof. G.S. Bajpai, Vice-Chancellor, RGNUL, said, “RGNUL, Punjab has always initiated the best practices and projects to make high quality education accessible to learners. ‘Sociology of Gender’ will familiarize learners with various perspectives related to gender equality.”

About the Course

The MHRD has launched the project ‘Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds’ (SWAYAM) to disseminate educational content to masses. With an aim to provide access to the best quality learning resources across the country, SWAYAM proffers MOOCs. Learners from diverse disciplines can enroll on SWAYAM, integrated platform and portal for online courses, throughout the year. These courses pan across High School and all higher education subjects as well as skill sector courses to ensure that every student benefits from learning material through ICT. MOOCs also support career development, changing careers, supplemental learning, college preparations and life long learning.

Glimpse on the Course

‘Sociology of Gender’ deals with the genesis of the subject in India and the Western world. Domestic violence and other forms of violence perpetuated against a particular gender would be addressed in this course. The course content has been prepared and delivered by Dr Jasleen Kewlani, Assistant Professor of Sociology, RGNUL, Punjab. Dr Kewlani has earlier been felicitated with State Award for her contribution to the subject of sociology.
