Call for Applications

The IP & Innovation Researchers of Asia (IPIRA) Network is pleased to announce the Fifth IP & Innovation Researchers of Asia (IPIRA) Conference, which will be hosted on 1-3 March 2023 by the Division of Business Law, Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Due to the still ongoing challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fifth IPIRA Conference will be held as a hybrid event, with the possibility to also attend and present online.

The Fifth IPIRA Conference is organized by the IPIRA Network in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Academy, the World Trade Organization (WTO), and the following academic institutions: Division of Business Law, Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University, the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, International Islamic University Malaysia; Faculty of Law, Universitas Indonesia; Texas A&M University School of Law; and the Faculty of Law, University of Geneva.

As in previous years, the Fifth IPIRA Conference is supported by a group of distinguished academics serving in the Scientific Committee and by several academic institutions in Asia-Pacific, Europe, Africa, and the Americas, reflecting the IPIRA Network’s mission to promote worldwide interactions between IP and Innovation researchers (see http://ipresearchersasia.org/annual-conference/).

Submissions

Researchers, including Ph.D. candidates, who are interested in presenting at the Fifth IPIRA Conference should email the following information to [email protected]:

A title and short abstract of the paper or work-in-progress (500 words or less) they would like to present as a Word The submission should be in English.
A short bio (200 words or less) including a recent picture (in the same file), also as Word The submission should be in English. *Note that applicants must be affiliated with an academic institution to be accepted to the Conference.
In their submission, applicants should specify whether they will attend the Conference in person or online if their abstract will be accepted at the Conference. **Note that this information is crucial to organize both the scientific and logistical parts of the Conference. Applicants should decide carefully whether they will attend in person or prefer to present online at the time of their submission. Changes from in-person to online or vice versa at a later stage will disrupt the Conference’s organization and will be limited to true emergencies.
Please indicate “Submission to the Fifth IPIRA Conference” in the email subject line of your submission.

The Organizers welcome submissions by senior, mid-career, and junior academics. Submissions are welcomed from legal scholars writing on IP and Innovation-related topics in Asian Law, Comparative Law, and International Law, as well as scholars interested in IP and Innovation from a variety of interdisciplinary perspectives.

Applications from students, including LL.M. students, will not be accepted as the Conference is reserved for academics (full-time and part-time) and Ph.D. candidates. Students can only apply to attend the Conference should they be interested in attending.

There is no paper publication requirement to present at the Conference. Likewise, no publication of the papers presented is contemplated after the Fifth IPIRA Conference.



Deadlines for Submission and Notification of Acceptance

The deadline to submit a request to present is 20 November 2022. *Early submissions are strongly encouraged. The Organizers will notify accepted participants by 5 December 2022. Accepted participants will need to confirm their participation no later than 15 December 2022 to allow sufficient time to create the final Conference program.

Format and Time for Presentations

The Fifth IPIRA Conference will feature a combination of plenary and parallel sessions. The final schedule will be based on the number of submissions. *The Organizers anticipate admitting a similar number of speakers as in the previous editions of the Conference.

Presenters will have approximately 25 minutes for their presentation including comments/questions from the audience. We encourage participants to speak for no longer than 15 minutes, reserving a considerable amount of time for comments/questions.

All presenters are strongly encouraged to attend the whole Conference if possible.

As in previous editions, the Fifth IPIRA Conference will feature keynote speakers and plenary panels with senior scholars and officials from international organizations.
