About the Legal Internship Opportunity

National Geographic Society is seeking a Legal Intern to join and support our Legal & Business Affairs team. The Legal intern will gain exposure to legal work and will develop skills in legal research, drafting legal guidance, and contract negotiation. Potential projects may include researching and providing best practices in electronic document retention or reviewing and assisting with negotiations of contracts.

Eligibility

Current student in either a 3/4-year law school program or a Masters of Legal Studies program (or equivalent). Students will need to be enrolled in school during the internship.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Gain experience with contract review, advising, and negotiation. (20%)
  • Perform privacy and technology law research and collaborate across departments to implement learnings. (20%)
  • Conduct local property law and regulation research in support of key initiatives on campus. (20%)
  • Enhance the organization’s understanding of local employment and labor law developments. (20%)
  • Gain exposure to law of non-profits and advise on implications of critical projects. (20%)

Expected Skills

  • Ability to work well with others and independently as needed
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and writing skills—clear and concise writing required

Location

Our internships are US based. The 2023 program will be remote. Students will be invited to our DC headquarters one week in June to attend one of our signature events.

  • Start Date: 6/5/23 (no exceptions)
  • End Date: 8/11/23
