INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE- CALL FOR PAPERS BY UNIVERSITY OF LJUBLJANA, 30 JUNE –1 JULY 2023

PERSISTENT IMBALANCES IN INTERNATIONAL TRADE AND THE PROSPECTS FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: FOCUS ON THE DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

About the conference:

The WTO has succeeded in promoting international trade, but there are still many excluded regions and social groups. Structural imbalances in international trade require redefined international trade rules to ensure inclusive, sustainable, and diverse development. Attempts to tackle imbalances by unilateral measures have failed. An international conference organized by the University of Ljubljana aims to overcome the current WTO impasse by finding ways to promote socially inclusive and green trade deals while reconciling international openness with national and regional development strategies.

Areas of interest:

The Scientific Committee of the International Conference ‘Persistent Imbalances in International Trade and the Prospects for sustainable development: Focus on the developing countries’ launches a call for papers.
The papers shall address the topics of the phenomenon of sustainable development in developing countries, including the following themes:

  1. Developing countries in international trade law
  2. Developing countries between the rise of BRICS and the leading trading blocs
  3. Developing countries after the failed Doha round
  4. Developing countries in the context of SDGs and WTO bilateral and regional trade agreements

All topics cover trade, environment, and social and development issues, and submissions on each of these areas of international environmental law are welcome.

Application:

  1. A 500-700-word abstract [Word file or PDF];
  2. The author’s CV, including a list of relevant publications, if applicable;
  3. The author’s contact details, including e-mail address and phone number;
  4. Whether the author is an ESIL or ASIL member (Being an ESIL or an ASIL Member is not a requirement to submit an abstract)
  5. Interdisciplinary and co-authored papers are also welcomed.

Please include the following information:
The author’s name and affiliation; Senior and junior scholars (including PhD students) are invited to participate in the call for papers. More abstracts can be submitted, but only one abstract per author will be accepted.
Applications will be reviewed and all applicants will be informed of the decision of the selection committee soon after the deadline.

Venue: The international conference will take place in person, on the premises of the University of Ljubljana, School of Social Sciences, Department of International Relations, Slovenia on 30 June –1 July 2023.
