Call for Papers: RETHINKING COMPANY LAW

Background

At the 2023 SLS Annual Conference, the Company Law Section voted to request funding from the SLS for an additional company law conference in 2024. This was following the popularity of the conference “The Future of Company Law” held in Edinburgh in April 2023.

The aim is to continue to build upon the success of the previous conference, and to further develop the connections of the company and corporate law academic community. This is of particular importance given the extended time between the main SLS conference, the June 2023 conference in Oxford and the September 2024 conference in Bristol.

We are therefore delighted to issue this call for papers in respect of an in person conference held at Newcastle upon Tyne, hosted by the Newcastle Law School between lunchtime on 21st March 2024 and lunchtime on 22nd March 2024. This should allow sufficient time for travel to and from Newcastle, with only one nights accommodation required.

Theme

The theme for the workshop is the “Rethinking Company Law”. This is to be construed widely, and so submissions are invited on any topic within company law that could be seen to have a link to the wide theme advanced.

Format

The format of the workshop will be as follows:

15.00-15.30 – Coffee Break

Lunch will be provided for all attendees and dinner on 21st March will be provided for speakers. Limited funding is available, and we wish to prioritise those who do not have access to funding from other sources. As such, hotel rooms are available for 21st March for participants who confirm that they do not have access to other sources of funding for accommodation. It is hoped that travel expenses may be available for some participants, but only if (and to the extent that) accommodation is not required for all participants.

Submissions

Please submit a 250 word abstract, together with a short CV to [email protected] and [email protected] by 29 December 2023.

Please also indicate whether (a) you need accommodation for the evening of Thursday 21st March (and if so that you are not able to attain funding from other sources), and (b) you would like to be considered for a contribution to your travel from any surplus fund (and if so that you are not able to attain such funding from other sources).

If you wish to attend the conference as a non-speaker can you please RSVP before 29 February 2024, as these places will be limited.

If you have any queries, please email [email protected] and [email protected]
