Call for Submissions: Special Issue on Animal Rights! Submit till 28 December 2023!

Theme

The second issue of the Environmental Rights Review will focus on the place of animal rights within the landscape of scholarship on environmental rights. Animals have been awarded legal personhood and/or legal rights in various jurisdictions, though these are sometimes argued to be weak. Scholarship on animal rights is growing steadily. Yet, there has been relatively little attention given to the question of how or whether narratives and theories of animal rights fit within the evolving landscape of environmental rights. This landscape includes rights of nature and the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment (explored in issue 1). For this special issue, we welcome contributions that address this interface through cutting-edge research on philosophy, legal theory, animal rights litigation or legislation, or the future of animal rights. This is not an exhaustive list, and we welcome contributions that are experimental, adventurous, and creative, noting that the journal intends to be a workshop space where we can revisit and experiment with old ideas and practices, and develop new approaches and methods.
