Call for Applications | Research Assistants | Access to Justice in Citizenship Determination! Apply Now!

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) invites applications for the following positions under the project ‘Access to Justice in Citizenship Determination’. These are full-time contractual assignments (4 months) and may be remote.

1. One role as a Research Assistant (Domestic Law Analysis).
2. One role as a Research Assistant (International Law).

This assignment is in furtherance of the NLSIU’s focus on Access to Justice and Legal System Reform and in collaboration with Queen Mary University of London. The project aims at examining citizenship determination processes in the state of Assam and will result in a legal report on systemic barriers to legal aid for persons at the risk of statelessness.

Role

1. Researcher (Domestic Law Analysis)

Role Description

  • Collation and analysis of case law on citizenship determination in the state of Assam.
  • Draft and finalise the chapter on domestic case law for the legal report.
  • Assist in organising report launch.

2. Researcher (International Law)

Role Description

  • Collation and analysis of international law standards on statelessness and citizenship deprivation.
  • Draft and finalise the chapter on international law for the legal report.
  • Assist in organising the report launch.

Both researchers will work under direct supervision of Ms Darshana Mitra, Assistant Professor, NLSIU and the Principal Investigator of the project.

Who should apply?

  • Degree in Law, with at least three years of relevant work experience or Master’s Degree in Law or Social Sciences. Preference will be given to candidates who hold a degree in criminal law, human rights law and allied fields.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • In addition, the candidate must have:
    • Ability to work in a team, contributing to both team and individual goals.
    • Ability to meticulously use different legal research databases.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of G-Suite, MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
    • Good communication, organising and time management skills
