ABOUT GNLU CENTRE FOR ENVIRONMENT, SUSTAINABILITY AND CLIMATE JUSTICE

The Centre for Environment, Sustainability and Climate Justice established by Gujarat National Law University, offers to study,
research, and provide expert consultation in environmental matters. The Centre aims to provide a platform for study,
research, capacity building, and consultation to all stakeholders, including grassroots people, government, industries, and
administrative authorities. The vision of GCESCJ is clear and unwavering: it aspires to be a global leader in environmental law
and policy, fostering a world where environmental sustainability and climate justice are paramount.

21ST ANNUAL COLLOQUIUM OF THE IUCN ACADEMY OF ENVIRONMENTAL LAW (AEL)

The Annual Colloquium organized by the IUCN AEL brings together experts, scholars, practitioners, and stakeholders in the
field of environmental law to discuss and deliberate on critical issues related to conservation, sustainable development, and
climate change. This event provides a platform for exchanging ideas, sharing of research findings, and fostering collaboration
among individuals and organizations committed to environmental protection. In 2024, the Colloquium will be hosted in India for
the first time since its inception in 2003.

Theme:

The theme for the 21st Annual Colloquium is “Mission LiFE: Ensuring Environmental Sustainability & Climate Justice through Community Action”. The theme incorporates the Indialed global mass movement: Mission Lifestyle For Environment (Mission LiFE) emphasizing individual and community action to protect and preserve the environment. Mission LiFE recognises that Indian culture and living traditions are inherently sustainable and it seeks to explore the ways in which collective community action can help in realizing environmental sustainability and climate justice. The Colloquium’s focus on community action and the integration of traditional wisdom with modern environmental challenges makes it a significant and inspiring platform for driving positive change.
The 2024 Colloquium’s theme aligns with the urgent need to address environmental issues through collective action. By bringing together global experts and practitioners under this theme, the Colloquium aims to catalyse meaningful discussions and initiatives that can contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally just future.
