Applied Materials has an exciting opportunity for an experienced attorney to help establish and grow a new Litigation Center of Excellence (COE) in India to support our world class Global Litigation & Investigations Team. This team is responsible for safeguarding Applied Materials’ innovations and reputation by leveraging cutting edge technology and techniques to investigate and take action, while relentlessly focusing on prevention and risk mitigation for the company. The Litigation COE will play an integral role in supporting active litigation and investigation matters, including performing initial fact development and issue assessments, leading eDiscovery and document review efforts, conducting interviews and preparing summary memoranda, and preparing matter reports and executive presentations.

  • As the Team Lead of the Litigation COE, will be responsible for designing and launching the COE, including helping define the COE’s mission statement and charter; recruiting, onboarding, and training of other COE team members; acquiring and deploying requisite tools and technology for the team; and developing internal processes and protocols, process and workflow documentation and playbooks, reporting templates, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and productivity metrics. Once established, the Team Lead will be primarily responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the COE, handling support of investigations and litigation matters, and engaging in consistent Continuous Improvement Projects (CIPs) that drive further operating efficiency and effectiveness of the COE.

This position will be based out of Applied Materials’ office in Bengaluru, India.

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Lead, supervise, and staff the Litigation COE in accordance with the collective vision and requirements of the Global Litigation & Investigations Team
  • Support key investigation and litigation matters, including initial fact development and issue assessments, leading eDiscovery and document review efforts, conducting interviews and preparing summary memoranda, and preparing matter reports and executive presentations
  • Help define the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), operating playbooks, intake procedures, workflow management and communications protocols for the COE
  • Develop KPIs, productivity metrics, and service level standards for the COE
  • Develop standard reporting and presentation templates
  • Provide oversight, coordinate across stakeholders, communicate progress, and manage escalations on matters as needed
  • Serve as the lead and primary liaison for the COE for the Global Litigation & Investigations team members, coordinating closely with headquarters

Desired Qualifications

  • LL.B. / LL.M. degree from a reputed and BCI-accredited law institute in India, or other international equivalent
  • 10+ years of litigation support experience at a top tier law firm, professional consulting or managed services firm, and/or in-house at a multi-national company
  • Experience in leading and/or setting up a COE within a corporate legal organization, ideally supporting litigation and eDiscovery
  • Experience in conducting internal investigations, fact development, witness interviews, and early case assessments
  • Expert in eDiscovery and document review best practices and hands-on experience with major review platforms (i.e. Relativity, OpenText, Disco, etc.)
  • Understanding of computer and digital forensics
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, detail-oriented, flexible, and impeccable integrity
  • Collaborative by nature and able to build strong partnerships
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, global environment and ability to manage and prioritize a diverse and complex workload
  • Self-motivated, driven, and ability to work independently and within a team to achieve desired objectives

Bonus Qualifications

  • Substantive trial, arbitration, and/or adversarial administrative proceeding experience
  • Previous in-house experience (preferably at a technology company with global operations)
  • Fluency in multiple languages
