Call for Papers: Law of the Sea in the ASEAN Mari me Domain! Submit Now!

The Max Planck Foundation for International Peace and the Rule of Law (MPFPR) is pleased to invite papers for a special issue on the Law of the Sea in the ASEAN Maritime Domain to be prepared and published as part of the ongoing ASEAN-MPFPR Coopera on Project entitled “Strengthening Regional Integration and the Implementation of a Rules-Based International Order in ASEAN”.

Theme

The Association of Southeast Asian Na ons (ASEAN) Foreign Ministers’ Statement of December 2023 “recognised the need to maintain and strengthen stability in the maritime sphere” in Southeast Asia and “underlined the importance of strengthening maritime coopera on and exploring new initiative towards this end, as appropriate”.

Likewise, the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific of 22 June 2019 fosters maritime coopera on in a wider Indo-Pacific region, with Southeast Asia laying at its centre. Universally recognised principles of international law, including those found within the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, are considered as the foundations upon which regional efforts in both domains will advance.
