In India, the position of Judge Advocate General (JAG) is held by a Major General, who is the Army’s legal and judicial leader. A distinct JAG branch, made up of legally trained army personnel, assists the Judge Advocate General.
Concerning the Opportunity
The JAG 28th Notification for the JAG entrance 2022 has been released by the Indian army (Judge Advocate General Branch). It is a unique opportunity for male and female law graduates to join the Indian Army’s JAG branch.
Unmarried male and female law graduates are encouraged to apply for a Short Service Commission in the Indian Army’s Judge Advocate General (JAG) Branch.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- Nationality: The candidate must either be:
- A citizen of India, or
- A subject of Nepal,
- A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia, and Vietnam to permanently settle in India, provided that a candidate belonging to the 2nd and 3rd categories above shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. Certificate of eligibility will, however, not be necessary in the case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal.
- Age: 21-27 years old as of January 1, 2022 (Born not earlier than 2nd January 1995 and not later than 1st January 2001; both dates inclusive).
- Graduate of a three-year or five-year law school programme with a minimum grade point average of 55 percent.
Candidates must be eligible to register as an advocate with the Indian Bar Council/State Bar Council OR
The candidate must have graduated from a Bar Council of India-approved college or university.

Engagement Duration
Male and female Regular Army soldiers will be issued a 14-year Short Service Commission, which will last for an initial period of 10 years and can be extended for another four years.
Note:
- Male and female officers who wish to continue serving in the Army after their 10-year Short Service Commission has expired may be considered for the grant of a Permanent Commission (PC) in the 10th year of their Short Service Commission, if eligible and suitable in all respects, in accordance with the relevant policies as issued from time to time.
- Those SSC officers (male and female) who are not selected for PC but are otherwise fit and suitable will be offered the option to stay as SSCOs for a total of 14 years (including the initial 10-year term), after which they would be released from the Army.
Period of Probation: 6 Months
- Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai, India, for 49 weeks of training.
- Stipend for Cadet Training (JAG 28): Rs 56,100 per month fixed stipend
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
- Click ‘Officer Entry Apply/Login,’ then ‘Registration.’ (Registrations are not required if you have already registered on the website.)
- Fill out the online registration form after carefully reading the instructions.
- After you’ve registered, go to the Dashboard and click on ‘Apply Online.’
- The page titled “Officers Selection – Eligibility” will appear. Then, next to Short Service Commission JAG Entry Course, click ‘Apply.’ The page titled “Application Form” will appear.
- Each time a candidate opens the application to make changes, they must click on ‘Submit Now.’
- Candidates must print two copies of their application, one with their Roll Number, 30 minutes after the online application is closed on the last day.
