CHECKMATE’, the official debating society of Amity Law School, Noida is the flag bearer of Debating Culture in Amity Law School, Noida. It is also one of the most famous societies of Amity University Uttar Pradesh.
About the Event
Verbum Bellum is the flagship event of the CHECKMATE Debating Society. The following events are to be conducted in this competition:
- Group Discussion
- Turncoat
- Cross-Examination
- Panel Discussion

Eligibility
Undergraduate and Postgraduate students from various departments of Colleges across India can participate in this offline event(Travelling Costs shall not be reimbursed).
General Rules
- Students can speak FOR or AGAINST the motion. Each speaker will be given a fixed time followed by an exclamation from the Judges or the Office Bearers if permitted by the Judges. The time to answer the interjection is 1 minute.
- The motion can be interpreted in any manner if the speakers provide a logical link between the motion and the interpretation.
- Once the allotted time is over, a bell will ring. Marks will be deducted for overshooting the time limit for more than 30 seconds.
- No follow-up questions on the interjection shall be entertained.
- The top 3 speakers/teams based on their scores will be adjudged 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
- The decision of the Judges shall be considered ‘Final and Binding.’

Registration Fees
- Group Discussion – Rs.500/-
- Turncoat – Rs. 600/-
- Cross-Examination – Rs.1500/- (per team) (This is a team of 2 participants debate).
NOTE – For Non-Amitians, 18% GST would be applicable in the fees of the respective debate format.
