Founded on the principles of fostering stronger cross-cultural relationships, the program aims to enhance understanding, compassion, and collaboration across borders by providing young Americans from various sectors with the chance to deepen their connections with the countries, cultures, and people of Asia.

Every year, Luce Scholars can be found living and working across Northeast, Southeast, and South Asia. Their roles span an array of fields, including public health, the arts, economic development, environmental science, and more. These scholars contribute their skills and knowledge to NGOs, government agencies, private companies, universities, think tanks, and museums. Past Scholar Placements
Our previous Luce Scholars have been placed in a wide range of Asian countries, including Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, and Timor Leste.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the Luce Scholars Program, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Citizenship: Candidates must be either U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
- Age and Education: Candidates may be graduating seniors, recent graduates, or young professionals under the age of 32. If older than 32, candidates must have received their bachelor’s degree within the past three years.
- Country Restrictions: Candidates who have spent 18 weeks or more in more than one of the countries where Luce Scholars are placed are not eligible to apply. However, candidates who have spent 18 weeks or more in only one of these countries are eligible to apply but will not be placed in that specific country.
